I am currently Vice-President of the Board of Directors at Free Geek Toronto.
Free Geek Toronto is a non-profit social enterprise founded in 2009 with the mission of making Toronto a place where e-waste is disposed of responsibly, safely and ethically, and where everyone has access to computers and the Internet. Free Geek Toronto aims to promote social and economic justice, focusing on marginalized populations in the Greater Toronto area.
The organization’s key activities include:
- Recycling used electronics sustainably;
- Refurbishing computers & re-selling them at an accessible price to individuals facing barriers to purchasing mainstream technology.
- Engaging in community workshops and events that provide greater computer literacy to Toronto’s marginalized population.
In my time as a board director, my portfolio of responsibilities has included Strategy, Governance, Volunteer Management, Marketing, Fundraising, and Sponsorship Development, among others.
In addition, Free Geek Toronto was selected to participate in the 2018/2019 Edition of the Agents of Change: Climate Solutions Accelerator at the Centre for Social Innovation. I have been directly involved in Free Geek Toronto’s participation in this Accelerator.
Below is a video I have helped produce that explains the value proposition for the organization. Note that I am the interviewer in this video:
