During the course of my graduate studies at Bocconi University in Milan, I had the opportunity to be involved in a Model UN simulation alongside international students spanning over 20 countries around the world. To my delightful surprise, I was unanimously selected by my team to represent our chosen country, Saudi Arabia, as the Chief Delegate.
As Chief Delegate, I was responsible for:
- Delivering the opening statement for our country at the simulation;
- Addressing relevant comments and statements issued by my peers/other Chief Delegates;
- Crafting a compelling position paper on a key issue facing the United Nations at the time.
Upon a peer review following the simulation, our team was selected as one of the top 3 most influential delegations during the course of the simulation. This was an honour considering the fact that I had very little knowledge of Saudi Arabian politics prior to conducting my research for the simulation.
Overall, this experience helped me develop my leadership, organization and public speaking skills – all within a truly international format.
